World number one Serena Williams says she is back to her “best shape” to challenge for a third straight US Open crown after a desperate year in the Grand Slams, AFP reports.
The American superstar hasn’t made it past the fourth round of a major in 2014 after back trouble and a virus that contributed to a shock third-round singles exit at Wimbledon.
But that is all in the past, Williams declared after winning in dominant fashion against Ana Ivanovic in the Cincinatti final on Sunday.
“I’m in some of the best shape I’ve been in,” she said.
“I can play long points and be ready to go again. I feel really fit – 32 is the new 22, right?”
The US Open at Flushing Meadows begins on Monday.
