‘Rack Centre’ll upgrade power utilisation in Africa’

British officials have described the Rack Centre as infrastructure that uses power and cooling technologies to provide efficient power utilisation, unseen before in Africa.
The officials are British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Peter Carter and the Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to the country, Mr. David Heath.
They gave their commendations when the Rack Centre hosted them, alongside a business delegation from the United Kingdom Trade and Investment.
The centre is the first and only Tier III certified vendor neutral data centre in all of West and North Africa offering collocation services.
During a tour of the facility by the delegation, Carter said he was impressed by the technology, the quality of the facility and the artisanship that went into the design and build of the data centre facility.
He remarked that the facility compared “favourably” with such facilities in more advanced countries.
Carter said he was also impressed that the technology was designed and fabricated in the UK, “and having passed through a rigorous approval, inspection, testing and certification by the British Board of Agreement.”
He said, “With increasing availability of intercontinental fibre cables in Nigeria and the resulting improvement in broadband Internet services, data centres are a core area for growth in the Information Technology industry.
“There is therefore a need for world-class data centres providing high availability of services and multiple connectivity options, and Rack Centre has taken a lead in this space by delivering West Africa’s first truly world-class colocation data centre.”
Meanwhile, Heath said he was happy that such a facility existed in Nigeria and emphasised the need to showcase such.
