Falconets better than Germans –Mbachu

Super Falcons forward, Stella Mbachu, says the Super Falconets were better than their German counterparts despite losing the final of the U-20 Women’s World Cup to the Europeans in Canada, on Sunday.
The Falconets were hoping to avenge their 2010 defeat to the Germans at the same stage of the competition but they have themselves to blame after fluffing several chances in the final of the 2014 edition played at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal.
“The final was a good game; our girls did very well even though they couldn’t score. They didn’t play as much as they did in their previous games of the competition but scored. Ironically, the one they gave their best, they couldn’t score.
“For the first time, our players kept the ball on the ground and dictated the pace of the game. The Germans were good also but the Falconets were better because they created more chances than them,” Mbachu, who was the MVP at the 2010 African Women Championship, said.
The Falconets were already celebrating five minutes from time after Loveth Ayila scored what looked like a good goal but the Nigerians’ celebrations was cut short by the assistant referee, who ruled the effort offside.
The Germans took advantage and grabbed the crucial winner courtesy of Lena Petermann, who slotted in after a pass from Pauline Bremer.
Mbachu described the decision of the assistant referee as ‘tight.’
