Martins attributes goals to luck

Obafemi Martins
After scoring a brace in Sunday’s 4-2 away win at Portland Timbers, Nigerian forward Obafemi Martins believes that he was lucky to score the goals which helped his club, Seattle Sounders, seal the win.
Before Sunday’s brace, Martins had last scored on June 7 in the club’s win at home to Chicago Fire.
The goals, which came in the 18th and 76th minutes, being the first and last goals, were enough to ensure the points for Sounders in addition to goals from Clint Dempsey and Chad Barrett.
Martins told Rave TV, “We had a good game and we deserve the win because we prepared very well and we scored great goals.”
The former Inter Milan striker added, “I was lucky to get the goals after such a length of time. I can’t really remember what I did on the pitch but I will say that there is always a bit of luck in all I do.
“Getting the ball and slipping, I mean falling down, and trying to get up and then seeing the ball in front of me, then trying to shoot and scoring the goal.”
He also praised the fans who stood by the club when they were playing draws and losing matches in the league.
“The fans have been wonderful, travelling and watching us play and still standing by us. It’s good to see them there,”
